Who would have thought that the Democratic Republic of Congo would become a leader in accounting education?
Thanks to the teaching of accounting combined with the use of suitable training software, in May 2024 students successfully passed their final exams as accounting assistants and, most importantly, are now ready to access the professional world.
The remarkable satisfaction of both students and teachers, clearly visible in the video below, leaves no doubt that the future of accounting education lies in combining it with the learning of suitable accounting software, such as Banana Accounting.
The project began in 2014 and the exams were the culmination of tremendous work and effort, involving thousands of specialists and schools nationwide. The Ministry's goal was to prepare business school students for the digitally-driven professional world, thus teaching both accounting and the use of specific software at the same time.
It was first necessary to retrain the approximately 12'000 teachers throughout the country, and the Ministry of Education therefore set up a cascade training plan. The teachers thus acquired the skills to upgrade the computers in their schools and start teaching students according to the new concept.
Banana.ch made the software available free of charge to all schools and provided the Ministry with the technical assistance it needed for success. Our developers, based on the specifications of the Ministry's specialists, created the extensions for the automatic preparation of OHADA financial statements.
The project was carried out with very limited financial resources, in a very challenging context, proving that the central element in education is the enhancement of teachers' skills and that, if well-organised, it can be achieved even with few means.
