Transferring data from other accounting software Saudi Arabia

In this article

After downloading Banana Accounting, it is possible that you will have to import data from another accounting software.

Banana Accounting allows you to easily import all the data you need in an existing Banana file (templates for Saudi Arabia included in the software or an accounting file created by you).

Import information in the clients/suppliers register (accounts table)

Each customer or supplier must be registered at the bottom of the accounts table. It is essential to complete this section because without it, it will be impossible to generate the invoices.

To import these information to Banana, follow these guidelines:

  • Create a CSV file with your old accounting software.
    •  Use as an example this file.
    • The first row must include the names of the columns in the “accounts table”.
    • Create a row for each customer and supplier.
  • Delete existing customers and suppliers in the new Banana Accounting file. This way, you will only have the updated information.
  • Click on “Account1”-> “Import to accounting”-> select “Text file with column headers”.
  • Select the CSV file you previously created.
  • Check the accounting. Click on “Account1”-> “check accounting”.

Import transactions in the "transactions table"

Importing transactions to Banana Accounting files is easy.

Follow these guidelines:

  • Create a CSV file with your old accounting software.
    • Use as an example this file.
    • For additional information, check the Import data webpage; especially the "Import double entry transactions in CSV format" section.
    • The first row must include the names of the columns in the “transactions table”.
    • Create one or more rows for each transaction.
  • Insert in the CSV file all the necessary information (date, invoice number, debit and credit, amounts and VAT codes).
  • All the transactions must be registered as a double-entry accounting entry.
  • The VAT codes must be the same as the one in the “VAT codes table”. For example, “15A”
  • Click on “Account1”-> “Import to accounting”-> select “Text file with column headers”.
  • Select the CSV file you previously created.
  • Check the accounting. Click on “Account1”-> “check accounting”.

Other importing methods

In case your old software does not allow to create importing files that are compatibles with Banana Accounting and you do not want to create CSV files, you can utilize Excel or create specific BananaApps.

Check the Transferring data from other accounting software webpage for additional information.

Import data with Excel

  • Export data from your old software and open them in Excel.
  • Create an Excel table with columns corresponding to the ones in Banana and insert the data.
  • Copy the values in the “accounts table” and in the “transactions table”.

Import data with BananaApps

BananaApps are Javascript applications that convert data in the format needed by Banana. They are highly customizable and allow to create Apps to automatically import data.

You will need two BananaApps:

  • One to import the data in the “Accounts table”.

@task=import.accounts

  • Another one to import the data in the “Transactions table”.

task=import.transactions
