The investment accounting templates provide predefined charts of accounts, an Items table for managing individual investments, and example transactions covering the main investment operations. The charts of accounts can be customized to suit your requirements.
Choose the approach that best suits how you want to manage your investments:
Integrated Investment Accounting
Manage securities and other investments directly within the same file as your financial accounting. Investment transactions and their accounting effects are recorded together with your other financial activities.
Separate Investment Accounting (Subledger)
Manage detailed investment transactions in a separate Banana Accounting file, which can be used as an investment subledger alongside your general accounting, including when the general accounting is maintained in other software.
Investment Accounting Extension
The Investment Accounting Extension adds specialized commands and reports to simplify investment accounting operations.
It works with both integrated investment accounting templates and separate investment accounting files used as subledgers.
The extension allows you to:
- Calculate realized gains and losses when selling investments, including exchange rate differences where applicable
- Update Market Prices to determine the current value of investments
- Create valuation adjustment transactions to record unrealized gains and losses
- Check investment balances and reconcile investment values with the corresponding Balance Sheet accounts
- Generate detailed investment reports, including Security Card and Investment Evaluation reports.
Together with the predefined templates, the extension helps you manage investment transactions, maintain accurate valuations, verify accounting balances, and analyze your investment portfolio.
