Error: missing ext-ms-win-gdi-desktop-l1-1-0.dll

If you launch Banana Accounting, version 5 or version 6 with Windows 10 Anniversary release (August 2016 update), you will get this message: "missing  ext-ms-win-gdi-desktop-l1-1-0.dll"

It is then impossible to use Banana 5 or Banana 6 with Windows 10 Anniversary.

Cause

It is a problem associated with the installation of Windows 10 Anniversary and due to the lack of Microsoft library. For further information, see the online discussion on the  OWL library forum

Suggested solution

Update to Banana Accounting 8

This is the simplest and most effective solution. The update can be obtained, with a 30% discount, at a cost of CHF 90.30 and will give you an updated program with so many new and useful features.
Go to the update page.

NOT recommended alternative solutions

Banana.ch does not offer support about this problem other than what is here indicated. If you do not have the technical skills to apply one of these solutions, we recommend that you contact a qualified technician.

Go back to your previous Windows version

Using Windows tools, you can go back to the previous Windows version.

Wait until Microsoft solves the problem

This is most likely a bug in Windows 10 Anniversary and it is possible that Microsoft will solve the problem in a future release. However, there is no certainty about it.

Install the missing library in Windows

This is a possibility that we found on the internet but we can not really recommend it as it requires advanced technical skills and there is a risk of compromising the system. It also needs to be operated by the system administrator.
We only mention these solutions to give full information to our users, but assume no responsibility.

  1. Manually install the missing Windows library .
  2. Install a file that tricks Banana 5 and Banana 6 into thinking that the missing Windows library exists.
This solution allows you to launch Banana 5 or 6, but does not guarantee compatibility with the program.
